Sunscreen Expiration Dates

Sunscreen typically remains effective for up to three years after the manufacturing date. The expiration date is usually listed on the packaging. 

How to find the expiration date 

  • The expiration date is usually on the packaging

  • For some SPF sprays, it's on the bottom of the bottle

  • For some sunscreen tubes, it's on the top

When to throw it out

  • You should throw out sunscreen that's past its expiration date 

  • You should also throw out sunscreen that has an off smell, color, or texture 

Why you should throw it out

  • Expired sunscreen may not work as well 

  • The preservatives in sunscreen expire, which can cause it to change texture, smell, or color 

How to store sunscreen
